Shehzad H. Qazi is the Managing Director of China Beige Book International and the firm-wide operations lead. He is responsible for key elements of the firm’s management, especially related to developing innovative services and approaches to help corporate clients manage their strategic and operational challenges in China. Mr. Qazi has been involved with the firm since 2012, first managing the production of the quarterly China Beige Book™ report and subsequently also serving as a senior analyst.
Dr. Craig Charney directs all research for the China Beige Book™. Dr. Charney has over two decades of experience in business, consumer, social and political research in emerging markets and closed economies. He has conducted polls in over 35 countries, including China, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam, as well as Europe and North America. His clients have included multi-national corporations such as Honda, Samsung, Monsanto, Nokia, LG and the Financial Times, as well as major business consultancies such as Castle Asia. Dr. Charney has also worked with major international and government organizations, including the World Bank, Center for International Private Enterprise, USAID, UNDP, U.S. Department of Commerce, the Millennium Challenge Corp, and The Asia Foundation.
Dr. Derek Scissors is Chief Economist of China Beige Book International, with oversight of the firm's data analytics operations as well as the China Beige Book's proprietary database, which is now the largest private database in the world on the Chinese economy. One of the world’s leading experts on China’s trade and investment flows, Dr. Scissors runs the China Global Investment Tracker, the only comprehensive, publicly available data set covering China’s global investment and construction activity, and is the author of a series of papers starting in late 2008 that predicted a substantial slowdown in China’s economic growth due to lack of market-based reform. He also serves concurrently as a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and an adjunct professor at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
